Laundries may not be the heart of your home but they work just as hard as your kitchen. So why put up with an ugly, poorly designed and inadequate laundry? You deserve better.

Here are our top 6 laundry design ideas to create a luxurious laundry room.

Luxury Design Idea #1: Built-in laundry hampers

When you include customised cabinetry in your laundry design, you can incorporate things that will make your life easier – like built-in laundry hampers. But don’t stop at one. Think about having at least 2 – say one for darks and one for lights. Perhaps add one for muddy sportswear or bulky items like sheets and towels.

When you have more than one laundry hamper, sorting the washing becomes a lot easier and quicker.

Luxury Design Idea #2: Add an integrated ironing board

Have you ever noticed how often your ironing board becomes a dumping place for the family’s stuff? With an integrated ironing board, you have easy access to your ironing board when you want it, without the need for it to be permanently on show.

There are now lots of options on how the ironing board folds away so speak to our designers about fitting an integrated ironing board into your new laundry design.

Luxury Design Idea #3: Maximise your storage

When it comes to storage, your laundry can be the busiest room in your home. It’s the ideal place to store:

  • Linen and towels
  • Brooms, mops, buckets and vacuum cleaners
  • Cleaning products, dusters and cloths
  • Household chemicals and spare batteries
  • Watering cans, clothes baskets, screw drivers and pruning shears

When you speak with the designers at Collaroy Kitchen Centre, they’ll help you maximise your new laundry’s storage space so you can have everything you need tucked away, but convenient to grab.

Luxury Design Idea #4: Powerpoints

Laundries need powerpoints and lots of them – not just for the washer and dryer. If you have a stick vacuum cleaner or integrated ironing board, you’ll also need powerpoints in those cupboards. You might want powerpoints for recharging torches and power tools like drills.

Don’t skimp on the number of powerpoints you have in your laundry. You may regret it later.

Luxury Design Idea #5: Bench space is incredibly important for laundries

Imagine how much easier things would be if you had a dedicated space to fold clothes and linen. Too often laundries are designed without bench space. But benches are incredibly important in a laundry and will make it much easier when you take items out of the dryer.

Luxury Design Idea #6: Design your laundry for your life

Laundries aren’t just a place to wash and dry your clothes. They can become dedicated drop zones for the family’s sporting equipment and shoes to ensure the rest of your home remains neat and clean. What about coat hooks to hang damp coats and rails for hanging clothes as you iron them?

If you have pets, perhaps you might like to add a bath area for them or dry food storage bins, pet sleeping or eating areas. If you have a swimming pool or live near the beach, you might also like to include a separate shower or toilet.

That’s the great thing about laundries. They can be adapted to suit the life you want to live.
