When it comes to laundries, there are no rules! Learn how Aussie laundries are changing and becoming a unique reflection of each homeowner’s lifestyle with our 5 laundry design ideas.

Laundries are often the most overlooked spaces in our homes…

Yet they are one of the most versatile. They range in size from European-style laundries in cupboards to large rooms that may include mudroom spaces, showers, dog bathing areas, linen cupboards or folding tables, as well as the usual laundry equipment.

It’s this flexibility that is changing the appearance of the typical Aussie laundry to create spaces that are stylish, functional and a true reflection of each homeowner’s lifestyle.

Here are our 5 unique laundry design ideas.

1. Mudrooms for the Northern Beaches

Mudrooms are usually considered essential for homes in cold, wet climates. While Sydney has been incredibly wet for the last couple of years, mudrooms are also great for homes located near the beach or for families who enjoy their winter sports. Imagine, no more sand, mud, wet clothes or towels scattered throughout your home. It sounds like heaven but it could be possible by extending your laundry to add a shower and mudroom area.

We suggest locating this type of laundry near the most used entrance of your home and our designers are available to help you realise your mudroom dreams.

2. Control the clutter with a cleverly designed laundry

If you are tired of the kids misplacing their shoes, coats or sporting equipment, a laundry that’s designed to control the clutter could be for you. Unlike the style of laundry above, laundries that help to control the clutter don’t need to be large areas. For this style of laundry, clever storage is the key – and perhaps a built-in bench seat to encourage family members to take off their shoes as soon as they come inside.

For us, designing this type of laundry is similar to designing a small kitchen – we cleverly use every millimetre!

3. Compact, functional laundries

It’s not always possible to have a roomy laundry but every laundry needs to be functional. When designing compact, functional laundries, we look for opportunities to include folding areas, linen cupboards, ironing stations, open shelves and storage for cleaning products and equipment. We’ll also talk to you about your washer and dryer preferences – whether you like them stacked, side-by-side, a 2-in-1 washer/dryer or no dryer at all. Your preferences here will determine where everything else will fit.

4. Industrial chic

Laundries are made for the industrial look! Just imagine exposed pipes, copper sinks, metal accents, recycled timber shelving, brick-look tiles and marble or timber benchtops that double as folding tables.

Our designers will help you design a laundry that is uniquely yours.

5. Let’s get stylish

If industrial chic is not for you, don’t worry. There are lots of other ways to achieve a stylish laundry. All you need to do is tell us about your preferred design aesthetic or we can match your laundry’s style to the rest of your home’s décor.

Popular laundry trends at the moment are:

  • Retro-inspired laundries that merge old pieces like up-cycled vintage troughs with the latest modern appliances
  • Statement laundries that use bold colours or wall mural patterned tiles to bring pizazz to an often overlooked room
  • Classic black and white laundries that contrast white appliances with black and white floor or wall tiles, and
  • A universal favourite, farm-style laundries with timber features to blend seamlessly into the country-cottage or farm-style décor of your home

When it comes to laundries, there are no rules!

Our clients recognised there were benefits in updating their bathrooms while all the trades were working on their kitchen and laundry-butler’s pantry. So in addition to creating these brand new areas, they also asked us to remodel their ensuite and main bathroom.

Work with a designer – not a salesperson

Your laundry is the one room in your home that has no rules about what it should look like or include. That’s what makes them so great to design and so important to the function, organisation and cleanliness of your home.

When you ask us to design and build a new laundry for your home, you are working with experienced designers who know how to combine style and function. Plus, we are licenced builders so we can extend your laundry to accommodate your requirements, if it’s needed. Learn about our custom built bathrooms and laundries here.
